Centennial struck first in the 15th minute. About 10 minutes later, Alexa Warren corralled a ball off of a Charger defender and sent a 25-yard shot into the upper left corner of the goal.
Both teams battled back and forth from that point on in an intense game. Midway through the second half, the Bulldogs began to wear down the Chargers and got three shots on goal.
In the final 5 minutes, Centennial rallied and earned several corner kicks, forcing Sarah Hohenstein to make several saves. In one instance, many players were scrambling around and falling over the ball right in front of the Bulldogs’ goal. An indirect penalty was called, but the resulting Centennial shot went wide. After a couple more scrambles, time ran out, with the final result a draw.
Mahomet-Seymour took the lead for good in the third inning. The game was tied at two with Mahomet-Seymour batting in the bottom of the third when Poland induced Dawson Finchto ground out, but one run scored.
Bradley Hamilton earned the win for Mahomet-Seymour. He tossed five and a third innings, giving up two runs, three hits, and striking out three. Poland took the loss for UHIGH. He pitched three innings, giving up three runs, seven hits, striking out three, and walking one.
