What will you read this summer?

Maybe the Mahomet Public Library can help.

In an effort to bridge the popular monthly subscription model some products use with the knowledge of the library staff, the Mahomet Public Library introduces the Teen Book Box program.

Through registration for the program, teens, ages 13 to 19, will let the library staff know about some of the books or book genres they enjoy reading. In return, the library will customize a box of goodies including a book, candy and a toy (i.e slime) of some sort.

“The toys and treats are theirs to keep, the library book has to come back,” Library Director John Howard said.

Registration for the program lasts three months. Teens who register prior to May 31 can pick up their Book Box on June 1, July 1 and August 1. Howard said that if teens register after May 31, they can still receive a box in the following months.

After the summer program is over, the library will open registration again for the fall and winter months.

“It’s just a fun way to get books in the hands of teens and maybe help them find some new favorites,” Howard said.

Registration can be completed on the Mahomet Public Library website by clicking here or Mahomet-Seymour Junior High and Mahomet-Seymour High School librarians also have access to registering students in the program.
