Fried and Lee lead Bulldogs to win over GCMS

Amalie Fried and Morgan Lee won their singles matches on Thursday (Aug.27) as the Mahomet-Seymour girls’ tennis team opened its season with a 3-2 win at Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley.

Fried beat her opponent at No. 1 singles, 8-0.

In doubles, the No. 3 Bulldog duo of Savannah Amatyleon and Averly Sanborn were triumphant, 11-9 in the tiebreaker to secure the M-S team victory.

The Bulldogs’ other doubles entries were Molly Fried and Emma Clements at No. 1 and Gianna Hill and Sophia Slupski at No. 2.

In the Saturday (Aug. 29) Effingham St. Anthony Invitational, M-S placed eighth with two points.

The Bulldogs received wins from both its No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles entries.

At No. 1 singles, Amalie Fried was 1-2 for the tournament, including a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Maroa-Forsyth’s Kristen Tuan.

At No. 1 doubles, Molly Fried and Clements compiled a 1-1 tourney record, including a 6-1, 6-1 conquest over Charleston’s Lyla Long and Emma Amaya.

The Bulldogs’ other entries were Lee at No. 2 singles,  Sanborn at No. 3 singles and Hill/Slupski at No. 2 doubles.

Hill/Slupski were 0-2, but their second loss was a heartbreaker to Charleston’s Clara Cox and Maci Mayhall, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5).

M-S returns to action on Tuesday (Sept. 1) at Mount Zion.
