Future developer of Deer Run Drive on Mahomet’s consent agenda

The Village of Mahomet board of Trustees discussed an amendment to covenants related to 55-acres south of the Country Ridge and Sangamon Fields subdivisions on April 21. The amendment was moved to the April 28 consent agenda.

The new covenant clarified that the future roadway, Deer Run Drive, responsibility is on the owners of the property.

The land, known as “Panagakis Property Holdings”, currently used as farmland, will undergo an ownership change and become the Benjamin Fields subdivision.

Community Development Director Kelly Pfeifer said that the original covenants, established in 1992, insinuated that the responsibility for the construction of that section of Deer Run Drive would be done when development happened on the 55 acres north of it.

Through ownership changes, the development did not happen.

“Essentially what it will do will make sure that the road, Deer Run Drive, is not constructed or  dedicated as a public road for (the Village) to maintain until significant traffic is needed to be served by it,” Pfeifer said. “And for that, that construction will be done, when the 55 acre parcel needs it.”

Pfiefer said that she had talked to the new owner of the “Panagakis Property Holdings” and that he had seen cost-estimates.

“I assure you that he is willing, absolutely willing to accept that responsibility and he is a signatory to the document that’s being put forth,” Pfeifer said.
