Mahomet-Seymour Girls’ Basketball ends week with three wins

Mahomet-Seymour’s girls’ basketball team won twice on Saturday during the final day of the Prairie Central Hawk Classic in Fairbury.

The Bulldogs (3-1) end the season’s first week with a three-game winning streak.

In a 59-32 victory over East Peoria, Nichole Taylor posted the team’s first double-double of the year, scoring a team-high 20 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.

Taylor made 8 of 9 shots from the field and also registered a team-high six assists.

Sammie Beyer chipped in with 10 points.

Ashley Campbell and Makayla Rosenbery each netted two three-pointers for M-S.

Cayla Koerner contributed five rebounds and Durbin Thomas finished with three assists.

In the team’s finale, M-S overcame a five-point halftime deficit to rally past Eureka, 44-41.

Koerner tallied 15 points and Taylor hauled down 10 rebounds.

Ashley Wheeler and Haylie Orton each grabbed seven rebounds. Taylor added eight points while Beyer and Campbell chipped in with six points apiece.

The season’s first week shows four Bulldogs with double-figure scoring games, three who have made three-point shots and one athlete who has achieved double figures in rebounding.

The Bulldogs are idle until their Apollo Conference opener on Dec. 2 at Mount Zion.
